Tax Accountant
Job description
This leading Australian fund manager has been the pinnacle of performance and innovation for the last 20 years. They are currently seeking a senior financial accountant on an interim basis, with strong potential to move into a permanent role.
Role Summary
The role encompasses key responsibilities in tax reporting, taxation of financial instruments, and tax-related client servicing. The successful candidate will actively participate in continuous professional development to stay current with industry standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Tax Reporting (80%): Review and prepare supplementary tax reporting, including 45-day reporting, Division 16E reporting, and present entitlement reporting.
- Taxation Review (10%): Analyze the taxation of financial instruments on an ad hoc basis.
- Tax Distributions & Returns (10%): Oversee tax distributions and tax returns for unit trust clients.
Key Accountabilities
- Review and prepare tax distributions and returns for unit trust clients.
- Prepare and review supplementary tax reporting.
- Evaluate corporate actions and procedures from a tax perspective, including transaction sampling.
- Support the Tax Manager on specific tax issues and tax accounting tasks.
- Contribute to projects aimed at improving the efficiency of tax information delivery to clients.
- Communicate with clients to address their tax reporting requirements and queries.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Essential Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in tax accounting, preferably in a professional accounting or commercial environment.
- Strong understanding of Australian tax principles and their interaction with accounting.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel.
- HiPort experience (highly desirable).
Highly Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of the taxation of financial instruments, unit trusts, and complying superannuation funds.
- Experience in process evaluation and re-engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance.
Formal Qualifications:
- CPA/CA qualification (or nearing completion).
