Performance Analyst
Role Overview
The Performance Analyst is a key member of the Investment Analytics Data Services team, responsible for overseeing performance, attribution, and risk-related reporting services delivered from the offshore hub in Chennai.
This role involves direct engagement with Australian-based clients, ensuring high-quality service delivery by addressing client queries, resolving issues, and participating in client service meetings and reviews.
Beyond day-to-day operations, the Performance Analyst contributes to change management initiatives, including analysis, prioritization, and user acceptance testing (UAT), while also participating in service reviews, workshops, and system demonstrations.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Support the delivery of performance, risk, and attribution reporting services for Australian clients.
- Provide oversight of core performance production activities handled by the global operations hub in Chennai.
- Serve as a primary escalation point for urgent or unresolved performance and reporting queries, ensuring effective communication between the offshore hub and clients.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of deliverables produced by the operations hub for assigned oversight activities.
- Maintain a strong focus on service timeliness and accuracy, as measured by key performance indicators (KPIs) and management information (MI).
Projects & Change Management
- Support client change control initiatives aimed at enhancing existing services.
- Assist with onboarding and setup of new activities.
- Contribute to the development of business requirements, UAT, implementation plans, and ongoing project governance.
- Optimize end-to-end production processes through cross-functional collaboration.
Technical Skills & Experience
Required:
- 2-3 years of experience in performance analysis, ideally with:
- A background in performance measurement, attribution calculation, and reporting within asset management, asset ownership, or securities services.
- Experience in performance-related project work, such as system implementation or process optimization.
- Client interaction experience, including discussing performance and attribution issues, participating in meetings, taking minutes, and delivering demonstrations.
- Strong understanding of core performance methodologies (e.g., daily time-weighted returns, Modified Dietz, IRR, unit pricing) and attribution models (e.g., Brinson, arithmetic vs. geometric, fixed income models).
- Knowledge of market data indices (e.g., S&P/ASX, MSCI) and classification schemes (e.g., GICS, BICS).
- Practical understanding of ex-post risk statistics (e.g., tracking error, Sharpe ratio, alpha, beta, volatility) and the ability to calculate them from first principles.
- Familiarity with multiple asset classes, including derivatives, and their treatment in performance measurement.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with GIPS standards and their application in the investment industry.
- Experience with composite and hedge benchmarks, drifting and rebasing weights.
- Excel VBA skills and/or Access database experience.
